13 is Sprague’s Lucky Number
It took 13 career starts at Martinsville Speedway, and a little intervention by the NASCAR “police,” but veteran Jack Sprague can finally claimed victory at the “Paper Clip.”
Ted Musgrave dominated in leading 105 laps of the 200 lap event but repeatedly slowed the field on restarts and was finally “ticketed,” and penalized for an improper restart, with 62 remaining. Sprague led from there coping his 27th carerr win,second only to Ron Hornaday’s 29, and his second this season.
David Starr, who won here in the spring, finished second followed by Erik Darnell leading teammate Mark Martin accross the line in fifth. Australian rookie Marcos Ambrose fonished 25th two laps down to the leader.
Points leader Todd Bodine finished 14th and Johnny Benson, who began the day 113 points behind, was fifth. Benson now trails by 73 points with four races to go.
