Jacques Villeneuve Getting a “Bailout” of his Own

Jacques Villeneuve, former CART champion (WAY former), former World Champion slightly less former), former driver for the British American Racing F1 entry (*Retch*), recipient of a BMW unceremonious boot out of F1 (Robert Kubica goes on to fame and fortune in the ride), Speedcar Series lifeline grabber for a couple 2007 events, Jacques-fan teaser by [...]

Is Patti Petty Telling Tales Out of School?

As long-time readers know I’ve been an advocate of Kyle Petty stepping aside and turning over the the #45 to someone, anyone if truth be known. It damn sure couldn’t hurt.
I’m surprised to have found an ally via Mike Mulhern who provides these Patti Petty quotes regarding Kyle’s status.
“Maybe I’m the only one here willing [...]

V8 Supercars: Fight On!

Call this funny or sad, your choice. I call it politicians meddling in something they have little understanding of. (OH, what a shock!)
The New South Wales Government, headed by its Premier Nathan Rees, recently approved a $30 million AUS (24 mil plus in USD) expenditure of tax dollars to hold an event through the streets [...]

Monday’s NASCAR Meditations

A few thoughts on Monday’s NASCAR news, that in all honesty take my mind away from the lunacy ongoing on Capital Hill at the moment.
Within a matter of hours it’s expected Paul Menard will announce he’s leaving the floundering, but not yet sinking, ship that is DEI (”Don’t Expect Interest”). Reportedly Menard is headed to [...]

Singapore GP: WOW!

Where to start?
I guess one of my favorite things about F1 are the images, funny to say about a race, to select images ahead of on-track action but it is what it is - a spectacle.
I’ve always loved the super slo-mo shots of cars catching air over the rumble strips at Bus Stop, or low [...]

Johnson Takes Charge in Kansas

Jimmie Johnson earned the victory in Kansas City Sunday, even though Carl Edwards made a final attempt to overtake the new Chase for the Cup point leader. Edwards went underneath Johnson and appeared to have the lead but the speed he was carrying and the air turbulence threw his Ford high to the outside wall.

Willi Weber Says A1GP - Erhalten Sie Geschraubt

Weber didn’t exactly say A1GP can get screwed (Erhalten Sie Geschraubt, “keep screwed” actually), but from reading this German translation, he’s said the next best thing.
One of the most successful A1 teams won’t be on the grid this year.
Schumi manager Weber has put, or is willing to put his 50% stake in A1 Germany up [...]

Allgaier, “All-Go” in New Jersey

The combination of a little luck, the necessary skill and the right pit road strategy turned Justin Allgaier into a road course winner Sunday afternoon in the inaugural Loud Energy Drink 150 at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Scott Steckly Wins NASCAR Canadian Title

Scott Steckly wrapped up his first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Sirius Satellite Radio championship Saturday night at Kawartha Speedway, holding off a late-season challenge from Don Thomson Jr.
The event came to a premature end as the checkered flag fell on lap 174 after 31 yellow flag laps as the result of a persistent [...]

R.I.P. Paul Newman a/k/a Doc Hudson

Tony Stewart
“Paul Newman was a phenomenal individual who made a profound impact throughout his life. His acting skills are well-known, but equally impressive was his desire to give back and help those who just didn’t get the same shake out of life that we did.
“I got to know him through our time helping build Victory [...]

Confirmed, A1GP Screwed the Pooch!

A1GP will start season 4 at the A1GP Zandvoort, Netherlands event on 4/5 October with a smaller grid than anticipated. The series has made no secret of its car build delay, and this has impacted on the number that will be on the grid at the Dutch seaside resort track.
“The situation we find ourselves in [...]

Well, He Was Número Uno for Una Hora

So much for Juan “Latino Piloto is Muy Bueno” Montoya celebrating his first Sprint Cup pole win.
“It’s huge. There’s times where it’s getting darker and cooling down and you run at the end and all of a sudden you pick up a half a second and you’re up there. But we were in the middle [...]

NCWTS?

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — NASCAR officials confirmed Friday that Camping World is negotiating to become the new title sponsor of the truck series next season, replacing Craftsman Tools.

All American Speedway Producing Diversity

All American Speedway located in Roseville California may be producing more candidates for Drive for Diversity Program than any other track in the nation.
A grass-roots effort has Galt (CA.) Juan Pitta headed to Virginia, where he’ll take part in the upcoming NASCAR Drive for Diversity combine.
With the help of the local Hispanic Chamber of Commerce [...]

Where There’s Smoke, There’s Knoxville

Tony Stewart is expected to make his qualifying run tonight for the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, Brian Stickel, a Knoxville Raceway spokesman said today.
Stewart’s also expected back for Saturday’s championship program, but is unlikely to be on the Knoxville Raceway dirt on Friday, because of NASCAR obligations at Kansas Speedway.
The four previous champions [...]

Singapore GP, Dark and Wet?

Weather looks set to pose an additional challenge at Formula One’s first night race with forecasters predicting a good chance of rain ahead of this weekend’s inaugural Singapore Grand Prix.
Drivers and teams already have to contend with the difficulties of trying to acclimatise to the time difference, with many opting to remain on European time [...]

U.S. Bank Bailout - A1GP Series Crash Out?

The news on A1GP’s fourth season is getting more dour with each passing day.
A few days ago (with a bit of help from Babel Fish) I reported the series stop in Zandvoort, Holland was in jeopardy due to the ongoing problems of officials not producing enough machinery for a full field of 22 nations.
Now comes [...]

Red Bull, Stuck on Stupid

AJ Allmendinger lost his ride at Red Bull Racing.
AJ Allmendinger will leave the Red Bull Racing Team with immediate effect, the Sprint Cup team announced on Tuesday.
Allmendinger was completing his second year in the series and had put his #84 car back in the top 35 in the owner standings, but the apparent and imminent [...]

NASCAR HoF Gets Taxpayer Boost

The Charlotte City Council agreed Monday to increase the NASCAR Hall of Fame budget by $32 million to boost exhibits and pay for unexpected building costs.
The 9-2 decision came after council members chastised city staff and other hall planners for not telling them sooner about the price hike. Council members complained of early, “lowball” estimates [...]

Dover: The Kyle Loathing Squad Should be Happy

That special breed of “fans’ that have spent the better part of 28 Cup events raining boos upon the head of Kyle Busch should be like pig in slop this morning.
After two bad finishes Busch finds himself out, if not mathematically, in all practicality from any chance to gain his first championship. The leader of [...]
