3rd Special Stage Results
Norway’s Solberg leads in Mexico
Norway’s world champion Petter Solberg, driving a Subaru car making its debut, led the Mexico Rally after the third special stage on Friday, slightly increasing his narrow lead over Frenchman Sebastien Loeb.
At the end of the third stage Solberg, driving Subaru’s new Impreza WRC2004, had a 10.8 second lead over Citroen driver Loeb, who won the season’s first two rallies in Sweden and Monte Carlo.
Finland’s Peugeot driver Marcus Gronholm was third in the standings after the third stage, 12.3 seconds adrift of Solberg.
An overnight thunderstorm made for muddy and damp roads over the first two stages, though road conditions had dried out by mid-afternoon.
“The roads are damp but not too bad to be first on the road,” said Solberg earlier in the day.
