A Busch wins, and a Busch Loses
Well, what can you say?
The Checker Auto Parts 500 (the 312 for the less “metric” among us) was run with a pair of Busch bookends. One Busch, Kyle, won the event for his second on the year after a side-by-side battle with Greg Biffle who ended the day in second.
The other Busch, brother and reigning Cup Champion Kurt, took the biggest loss of the day after being suspended by Roush Racing for acting the fool. Some have said Kurt’s Friday night actions deserve induction into the Jackass Athlete Hall of Fame, alongside such other great humanitarians as Terrell Owens, Mike Tyson and Dennis Rodman. I’m not here to argue the point. I do find it an enormous stroke of good luck on Jack in the Hat’s part the decision to release Busch to Penske Racing occured Monday four days prior to Busch’s “Friday Night Follies.”
It makes you wonder what the result would have been if the timeline were reversed.
As for the race, it was just another “workweek” for Tony Stewart. By finishing 4th he added to his point total, added to his margin over Jimmie Johnson, and checked another box enroute his second NASCAR Championship.
Jeff Gordon continued his late season resurrection. His 3rd moved him into the lead for the “After Thought Grand Prix,” (11th place). Bobby Labonte in his penultimate swan song for Gibbs Racing finished a creditable 5th and rookie teammate Denny Hamlin stayed hot with a 13th place finish despite a spin.
So it’s 35 down, and one to go and it’s Smokes to lose. But I don’t see that happening!
NASCAR, Auto Racing

Kurt got what he deserved. And it’s about time, too.

That’s possible Laura and because Busch has had a history of bad judgement on and off the track it’s easy to come to that conclusion.
But my good friend George
(where there is an interesting discussion on this topic) has pointed me in the direction of this report and this one just what kind of buffoon the head of that police dept is. As a result I’m withholding final judgement til all is heard and said.
It would be very interesting to see Kurt Busch take the same path as Dennis Rodman… he’d look quite funny in a wedding dress with the purple and pink striped hair.
I suppose every sport has to have it’s f-up. Poor Ryan Newman, going from one hot-head teammate to another.
I’d hardly call Rusty a hot head, maybe 10 years ago but not recently. But every sport has it’s share of idiots, but NASCAR has the least of any of them. Having one or two is far less than the dozens in the NFL or MLB.
Consider this, the M. Vikings have more on their team this year than NASCAR has had in the last 10 years.
And I’ll also go on record, barring any more screwups by Busch (a longshot I know), he will be with Penske far longer than Newman. Don’t be surprised if he isn’t replaced at the end of his contract.
