A Deafening Silence
What have been the biggest NASCAR stories the last few weeks?
The past two weeks of short track action have seen the normal media crush of “he did what to whom” stories. It’s a yearly occurence as NASCAR returns to it’s roots and the drivers return to beatin’ and bangin’.
Driver and crew chief penalties have taken up a lot of column space and air time. And the Carl Edwards “backflip” also made waves for about ten days.
Which brings me to the deafening silence: Where are the Reed Sorenson stories? Has the Busch Series dropped from the media radar?
As NASCAR moves into Texas this weekend Sorenson is second to Carl Edwards in BGN points. As a nineteen year old rookie in the Series he has compiled a remarkable record, earning seven consecutive top-10s.
He has started just 12 Busch races since joining the Series and has a win and eight top-10s. He has finished outside the top-15 just twice and been running at the finish in all but one event.
At the age of 17, he became the youngest driver to win the American Speed Association Rookie of the Year title, and backed that performance up with a Rookie of the Year title in the ARCA Series.
So… sombody tell me, where the hell is the press?

Hopefully Ganassi doesn’t do with Sorenson what other owners have done with thier Rookies; pushing them up to the Cup Series too soon. If Reed is allowed to learn in the Busch series and then move up to the Cup Series in a couple of years.
I tend to believe Reed is ready now. In fact my bet is you will see him in a Cup car late this year for two or three races.
I agree, they haven’t talked much about him at all, everything in the Busch Series seems to be about Edwards. I’m not knocking Edwards talent, but Sorenson is doing great too and is in second in the points, that should be something for them to talk about.
Reeds day will come, if even he must wait til next year when he moves to a Cup car.
