A Kiwi Times Three at Watkins Glen
New Zealander Scott Dixon took a commanding victory in round ten of the IndyCar series at Watkins Glen. Dixon won by more than six seconds from second placed Sam Hornish Jr.
It is Dixon’s first win of the season but his third in a row, the only winner in IndyCar Series history at the Glen.
He first took the lead on the 19th lap, after pole sitter Helio Castroneves crashed out under heavy pressure from the Kiwi.
Dixon remains second in the overall championship, closing the gap to 47 points on championship leader Dario Franchitti who finished third.
However, Dixon’s victory has been marred by an unsavoury incident after the race.
A fight broke out among the supporters and pit crews of Sam Hornish Jr and Tony Kanaan in pit lane after the two drivers had collided on lap 29. (please remember race car “dads should be in the grandstands.”)
And maybe team owners also!
Certainly more entertaining than the “Danica Tussle” of a few weeks back wasn’t it?

Dad’s getting into fisticuffs in the pitlane? God help us.
If it were another series I would advocate banning non crew members from the pits. Drivers should be responsible for the actions of their pit guests.
As it’s the IRL I say the more the merrier, in fact I would like to see IRL non-marketing, Director Gene Simmons, right in the middle of it. That way somebody (anybody) could slap him too.
In fact here’s an idea, throw in Tony George, Gene Simmons & the team owners & let them fight it out, maybe it will knock some sense into their collective thick heads. If nothing else it would do something for the ratings.
The on going saga of the divided OW scene in the U.S does my head in.
Hang on! I just watched that a second time & on the reply I see Marco Andretti pushing his Dad away from the scuffle & urging him to stay out of it. Great to see Marco has more brains than his Dad - but then we already knew that - that kid needs to get his Grandpa for a manager while he is still young & before it’s too late for his career.
And maybe a Springbok to!
Oh wait… they already got their ass kicked.
Throw in a couple of anabolic steroid Red Bull cocktails, Vince McMahon, and we will have the WWF on wheels. And I thought it only applied to NUTCAR!
Why couldn’t this fracas have happen last year with Eddie Cheever? LOL
Cheever getting knocked on his arse, priceless
