A NASCAR Turkey in Tulare?
Considering the days festivities it was hard to resist tying this story to the contents of millions of America’s ovens to yet another grandious plan for a potential NASCAR venue.
Presenting The Turkey in Tulare California (pass the cranberry sauce).
Tulare City Manager Darrel Pyle claims an area 20 miles south of the city — close to State Highway 99 — is a logical site for a $300 million-plus motor sports complex.
“This could change the entire character of the community,” Tulare Mayor Richard Ortega said. “But, of course, some people don’t want to change from small-town Tulare.”
Of course, NIMBY’s live everywhere. But there is something to be said for logic. I once made a perfectly logical argument (note the use of “logical, not sane) for a motorsports complex in Iceland.
On Tuesday the City Council voted unanimously

Thats a long way from North Carolina. But I bet the weather stays balmy there. Not that I’m a fair weather fan.
“NN” you’re correct it is a long way from North Carolina and yes the weather in Cali is far better than many places in the States.
And BTW, I have deleted the link you provided. As a normal course of posting a comment I don’t expect everyone to read my comment policy.
For that reason your comment stays but the link to a commercial site selling sports paraphernalia goes.

this “money cow” is by far the stupidest thing to hit the valley. as a nascar fan i have enjoyed the race for many years. however, i am completely sick to my stomach that this is happening.
having this motorsports park built in tulare, ca., will include certain death for me and countless thousands of other locals that suffer from respiratory diseases.
just the fact that the low life developer of this monster, didnt even have the BALLS to show up and hear what the tulare residents had to publicly say at the planning commision meeting speaks volumes.
we live in some of the worst air in the country. why would anyone approve this?? it all comes down to one thing. MONEY.
i think that all individuals for the racetrack should cash thier paychecks, get it in rolled pennies, then cram it..well you get the point. that is the daily pain that i will feel in my lungs if this horror is built.

One word “Sully.” - horseshit!
Your overblown rhetoric aside, the entire project if approved would have to meet conditions outlined in the California Air Quality Act.
You got a problem with that take it up with your state legislature and quite whining about your potential “death”.
Yes, Nascar would be great for the small town of Tulare, I dont think our breathing will be no more effected as it already is,it would bring 1 billion dollar revenue to this town, about 1800 jobs for the ones who dont have a job, and great business for the ones that are already here, not to mention the entertainment. Should Nascar come to our town? Heck ya!!!
While I agree cash would flow into the town however, even if the track is given a NASCAR date (highly unlikely given the full sched) it would take ten years, at least, to realize your billion dollar cash flow.
Put another way, your dreaming.
Has anyone thought about the noise thats going to go on here? I live far from the race track at the fairgrounds and i hear that crap from my house. oh and great this happens to be even closer to my house so what now, loud noises when i am trying sleep oh, drunks too, oh and to top that off, Traffic up the butt. Its not just the air quailty, its everything that is going to happen by this, nothing will be the same.
Alyssa, in answer to your question… noise issues are part of the environmental impact studies mandated by your state. Live with it.
And unless your trying to sleep between the hours of 10am and about 6pm you needn’t be concerned with noise intruding.
And BTW, just when has anything remained “the same?”
