A Portent of Things to Come?

posted in Commentary, Formula One, NASCAR |

Now that it’s well established NASCAR, via it’s Busch division, will make its debute in Montreal for the 2007 season I found this story a bit disconcerting. Written by ITV Sport’s F1 pit lane reporter Ted Kravitz he describes last weeks F1 event at Ile Notre Dame as the “worst organised event on the calendar.”

He calls event security “apes” who dress in “ridiculous black paramilitary outfits with big SWAT team-style gun belts, although, as they

Photographers haven’t been treated well at European venues - recently security refused to help as one photographer had tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen. And a few years ago in Belgium the police set the dogs on a group of photographers for being in the wrong area - even though it was a marked area for photographers.

Marc I don’t know if you get the Brit ITV F1 feed in the Philippines (I’m assuming you get the American broadcast). Allow me to explain the concept of pit lane reporter that ITV employ.Basically the ability to sound breathless while saying “Honda have called Button in, he’s stopping in the box, the mechanics are working on his car, the lollipop is up, 8.9 seconds, great stop he’s on his way” is all that is required.

Kravitiz is a total moron & hopefully an errant driver will run over him in the pits one day (damn those speed limiters) the only problem is ITV breeds these incompetents like rabbits so he will be replaced in the blink of an eye.In fact he replaced ITV’s original pit lane idiot James Alan, who was promoted to the commentary booth to fill the shoes of the legendary Murray Walker. There are no fewer than 3 on line petitions in the U.K calling for his sacking. Kravits & his supremely stupid sidekick, Louise “I’ll just see if I can catch a word with DC” Goodman are part of the new age F1 coverage that comes out of the U.K after the BBC got shafted by Bernie. Basically the only solution would be to have the lot of the shot at dawn but that’s not going to happen so I will just have to suffer through their annoying bullshit.

As for Kravitz writing a story on Montreal, better that he concentrated on the security staff because he is ignorant of F1, actually I’m surprised to hear he can write.

Let them try to manhandle Smoke, or a reporter interviewing him. Problem solved.

Thanks Don and Peter for giving me the heads up on how ITV, and in particular Kravitz, operates.

I’ll keep it in mind when I read their news feed.
