A Rather Sparse Cesspool

The wide open spaces that provides 3 wide racing for NASCAR’s hotshoes in Fontana also provides less bangin’, slammin’ and a shorter than usual Cesspool this week.

I would also suspect with only two events before the Chase cut-off date there was an attitude in the garages to let racers be racers. The 5-6 fighting to still be within range of the top ten made sure not to be bangin’ each other. And the rest of the field kept their distence as well.

The most obvious, and well deserving entry this week is NASCAR scheduling. Because of the late afternoon starting time at California Speedway, the 43 [avatar:http://cranialcavity.net/files/cup.jpg]Nextel Cup[/avatar] drivers faced a blinding sun as they drove down the backstretch and into the third turn for the first half of the 250-lap event. Drivers tried a number of different methods of blocking out the sun, including tape on some windshields, tinted tear-offs on the visors of their helmets, and sunglasses under their visors.

The California fans also are more than deserving of a dip in the pool this week. Anyone notice all the empty seats for the companion Busch Series event? Pretty sparse crowd wasn’t it? And very typical of Cali “sports fans,” they turn up for an “event” - i.e. one where they can be seen hob-nobbing with all the stars - even if by proxy, but fail to notice the “lesser events.”

And thats it!

Not much occured on the Left Coast to warrent entry into this weeks pool. With RIR being the last chance for entry into the Chase it should provide more than enough fodder next week.
