A Rio Mardi Gras Offered to Formula One

I fell in love ‘way down in Rio de Janeiro...
Oh excuse me, just a bit of daydreaming and thinking about a “marriage” of Rio de Janeiro’s “finest” and Formula One’s cast of Brolly Babes.
Rio’s Mayor, Cesar Maia, has offered to replace the cancelled F1 event at Spa Francorchamps with an event at its Nelson Piquet circuit.
The FIA and Bernie Ecclestone removed the Belgian GP, scheduled for September 17th, from this year’s calendar and ordered Spa Francorchamps to undergo vital track improvements to prepare it for the 2007 season.
“We know that Belgium has cancelled its meeting and we want to put ourselves at the service of the sport to organise our own,” said Maia.
If the Mayor’s dream is approved it would take place just over a month before the Sao Paulo Grand Prix on October 22 so logistics would be in place. And I have no doubt the F1 crazy population in Brazil would fill the place.
But I have two words for Mayor Cesar Maia. Fat & Chance. It’s a nice try though and great publicity for the city. And I still have my dreams.
