In a first ever effort Ferrari is branching out from its roots of Formula One and has signed an agreement with A1GP to supply engines and “technical knowledge” on chassis design.

The support will commence during the 2008/2009 season with Ferrari replacing Zytek as provider of V8 engines for the series.

With Bernie Ecclestone ramrodding his Asian GP2 Series I suspect his bedroom plaster may have a few “hand-hewn” holes drilled into them about now.

The Asian GP2 Series may have happened regardless of the presence of A1GP but there is little doubt Bernie hastened its birth to compete with the World Cup of Motorsport in Asia.

IN RELATED NEWS YOU CAN LOSE, A1 Grand Prix boss Tony Teixeira has admitted that he would be interested in buying into a Formula One team should the opportunity arise.

“I am looking around, and have been speaking to two or three different teams that may be available for sale,” he told Reuters, “If I find the right deal that makes sense, and it’s the right price and I think that I can get up to the top ten positions in F1, then I will conclude a deal.”

We know Spyker has been taken off the market so he won’t be doing his window shopping there.

F1 Toyota has already shown the door to Schumacher The Lesser and if rumors are true they may exit F1 altogether. Further up the grid, although not by much, is Williams who is reporting a loss of 57 meeeillion dollars in 2006.

With the marked gains shown by BMW Sauber he damn sure isn’t going to find a willing seller in that garage.

Looking at the grid landscape me thinks Tony Teixeira is talking the talk but has no where to walk, at least in the immediate future.

But what the hell, at least he tweaked Bernie’s nose with the Ferrari deal. Thats gotta count for something.
