FT. WORTH, Texas — 2004 Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford champion Sebastien Bourdais started his week in strong fashion, winning the 2005 season opener in Long Beach, but his efforts at the end of the week may have opened even more eyes than the Long Beach win did.

Bourdais became the first Champ Car driver in 10 years to win a race in International Race of Champions (IROC) competition, storming to the lead early and holding off a fierce challenge from IROC

  1. Maybe he is the heir to Mario’s legacy, a racer who can compete in anything on wheels. What better compliment can a racer get than Martin’s comment, “He was fast.” Clean racing was also appreciated, I’m sure.

  2. You may be correct George and it certainly wouldn’t hurt the sport to have someone with Mario’s talent around.

The closest is probably Tony Stewart if you overlook his bad attitude that is on display at times.
