ARCA RE/MAX: Racing for Wildlife 200 Preview
It looks like the ARCA Series has taken a cue from NASCAR for this weekend’s event at MIS, Brian France’s toy has been plagued by rain several times this year and as I write this the wet stuff has washed-out quals for the Racing for Wildlife 200.
Justin Lofton will start on the pole alongside James Buescher. The last four events - Kentucky, Toledo, Pocono, Michigan - have been rain plagued the first time in the 57-year history of the ARCA RE/MAX Series that four consecutive qualifying sessions have been canceled.
Alli Owens who’s coming off two consecutive top tens starts from the 12th row in 24th. Ageless James Hylton starts his Radon.com Ford from 19th.
Interestingly - interesting for those with a comedic outlook on life - starting ahead of Hylton is Michigan native Brad Smith with his ApplianceZone.com Ford.
Smith has enlisted the help of a “rookie” this weekend as his gas man.
Rookie being the operative word, rookie in the sense he’s not been part of an over the wall gang to my knowledge, but hardly a rookie when speaking chronologically as he’s on the down-side of 50. Not that that’s a problem, so am I.
Charlie Turner, best known as one of two authors of Bench Racing blog and co-host of the On Pit Row radio show, will be the rookie Gas Man.
It makes you wonder what normal crew member Lloyd Little is doing this weekend, I’m thinking it might have to do with National Security, or something VERY important, if you get my drift.
That said, I’m VERY jealous. The last time I was that close to a real race car was when sex was safe and racing was dangerous. Now, it’s the other way round.
Charlie, good luck this weekend, disregard my envy and cinch-up your fire-proof jock strap and go for it.
P.S. On second thought Charlie, this isn’t your convoluted way to get a spot on Last Comic Standing is it?

Heh heh! Marc, as long as I’m standing when it’s over, I’ll take comic or whatever. I admit to being a bit nervous about this, on the eve of the race. Brad’s a great guy and Andy and the rest of the crew take this all very seriously, so I don’t want this to sound like I’m taking anything lightly. I’m not.
We started talking about this deal during the cold months of winter. At the time, it all seemed kind of unreal. Tomorrow will be different. I’m pumped up man. Wish you could be there too.
Don’t mean to make light of a serious situation [not really] but it’s damn hard to resist.
I just wish I had the same opportunity during my time while acting as a testosterone laced pit lizard.
