Are McLaren Entitled to Victim Status?

Welcome Peter(NOTE: the following editorial was written by my latest guest author PeterG[the great] a frequent commenter hear at FT.

It’s published unedited with the exception of correcting the funky spelling that is part and parcel of the Aussie version of the English language. [damn Aussies, Limeys and Kiwis don't they know America RULES the English speaking world now?! - ed])

Are McLaren entitled to victim status.

This saga has more twists than the X-Files. It has now emerged that Stepney emailed his McLaren colleague prior to the season opener, informing him of the specs of Ferrari

  1. Correct my grammar & spelling? It was you Yanks & that hijacker Jimmy Webster that had to go & change the Queens English, Sir!

    Mind you, I shouldn

  2. I don’t know about that Peter… does the Queens Coach have tires or tyres?

    Webster? Who’s that?

Ever hear of Funk & Wagnels?

  3. Just a thought Peter….

Wonder if Terrell pulled the “victim card” in 1984 when they were busted adding lead ballast at the end of a race to meet the minimum weight requirements?

They were suspended for the last half of the year for that stunt.

  4. Your victim question is so far “off-base” as to be laughable. Protests are part and parcel of the f1 game. What is questionable is where the info came from? If they truly received an email from Stepney, and used that as the basis of the protest, then they be mad dogs, and should be put down for the season. If they got the info from the documents allegedly in Coughlans’ hands, same verdict.

If Coughlan told McLaren management he had access to Ferrari docs, and McLaren did not tell Ferrari, then they are still dogs but undeserving of a death penalty. But a severe sanction is warranted, and no doubt, will be handed out by the FIA.

I take no joy in witnessing any of this, in fact it may sour me on F1 in a lasting way. Depends on how it all turns out.

  5. George, my friend please don’t lose the faith in F1. If you can survive Schui/Todt/Brawn era of Ferrari you can survive anything. :-)
Further, there is nothing laughable about asking if Ron/McLaren is deserving of the victim status he has been crying about. Why? Because he does not deserve that sympathy!! While it all may have started with Stepney, the behavior of McLaren staff has been deplorable.

    Cheer up old buddy,….have a Foster’s.

  6. Marc, Webster? His dictionary introduced features that would be a hallmark of future editions such as American spellings (center rather than centre, honor rather than honour, program rather than programme, etc.)

As for Liz’s carriage? Those are rubber shod wheels, not inflatable “tyres”. Did you know Renault started as a coach maker?

Phew, thats the last time I do a post here….too much hard work. LOL! :-)

  7. Rubber shod wheels?!

    That’s pussy stuff.

REAL coaches, i.e. old west Stage Coaches, ruled the transportation system and won the west. They had STEEL shod wheels.

Then some nitwit ruined everything with something called an Iron Horse. (not to be confused with a F1 Red Horse, they’re much “slower”)

  8. “Has not McLaren behaved in the exact same manner to which it accused Ferrari of being unethical & underhand? Is McLaren
