Are They Frickin Kidding?
Dale Jr. gets slammed for 100 points and crew chief Tony Eury Jr. gets fined $100,000 plus a suspension of six weeks?
Oh, and they docked DEI (Don’t Expect Interest) owner Teresa Earnhardt 100 owner points.
I have to ponder this a while. First impression is… HWSBO is off his frickin’ rocker!
UPDATE: DEI’s (Don’t Expect Interest) Max Siegel has admitted culpability and is only “appealing the severity of the penalty because the penalty itself is not spelled out in the rule book.”
As you can tell from the original thoughts above I was very surprised by the severity of this action and Max’s quote above seems to imply, if true, it’s a result of another ruling based on the Mythical NASCAR Rulebook.
However, it doesn’t look like he or DEI has a leg to stand on:
“NASCAR, however, sent a March 21 memo outlining penalties for specific infractions on the Car of Tomorrow and specifically listed fines of $100,000, points deductions and suspension.”
Oops… the rulebook doesn’t apply in this case.

NASCOT hammers Jr. but Gordon gets away with the improper shock earlier this year, I’m sick of NASCOT’s BULLSHIT!
There are NOT many people who agree with this penalty at all, NASCAR has officially gone over the top, this was not blaten cheating and why did it pass pre and post qualifying tech, NASCAR should be looking at themselfs first, this should have been found on Thursday or Friday morning, not Sunday.
What’s Next!
“Pissed,” if you’re so sick of NASCAR I suggest you start watching Arena football or spend more quality time with your Wii.
How about this scenario “Pissed,” this is the first infraction for any team for a “CORN” race. They set a precedence, you screw up in the inspection process you get hammered.
Whether Gordon received a penalty or not is a red herring and has zero to do with #8’s fines and points loss.
RACEDRIVEN: Why should it have been found on “Thursday or Friday morning?” It was found Saturday during the regular scheduled inspection process all 43 cars went thru.
What are you suggesting, that the #8 should have had the advantage of a “Thursday or Friday morning” inspection? I know you too well to think that.
Moreover what difference would the timing of the inspection have made?
I feel it’s a bit stiff… inbalance. Look at what Benson received, but that is not a CORN now is it!?
Michael, what Benson Jr received the penalty for happened at a test session not a points paying event.
Given the fact he is a NASCAR vet and should know full well unlicensed drivers are never allowed on the track and he allowed it to occur without the knowledge of the owner I would have slammed him with more than 50 points.
If that Canadian “friend” of Benson would have killed himself in the accident that occurred NASCAR would be liable for millions in compensation.
NO, I wasn’t thinking that NASCAR gave the #8 car an advantage, it was just a question that bothered me, plus since it was after qualifying, why no starting 43rd?
I agree that there should have been a penalty because the part was on there, nonetheless it wasn’t intentional and the penalty should have been half that amount. Hopefully in the appeals, it will be reduced by half, but don’t count on it.
Dale Jr and the #8 team will come back and be in the 2007 chase.
See Yeah!
