Around NASCAR’s Barn
Here’s a few notes that caught my eye in the last few hours:
Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage has taken a cue from Talladega President Grant Lynch and pulled the list of names that were arrested for playing “bottle toss” so they will be unable to purchase tickets to Texas events in the future.
In addition, Gossage is considering taking it a step further. Any persons who knowingly purchase tickets to TMS events for any of the people on the banned list from Talladega will also be subject to a ban from the speedway.<div style=”clear:both;”
Evernham Motorsports will be holding their sixth annual Fan Appreciation Day on Friday, May 25. Rumor has it Ray Evernham will provide fans with a “suggestion box” in a desperate attempt to find a solution to the teams dismal performance this year.
Does this show a nexus? Just over two weeks ago HWSBO and a small group of sycophants associates traveled to China “to discuss possible projects with government, sports and business officials in Beijing.”
This week Ginn Racing announced Haier America, a division of the Chinese-owned Haier Group will sponsor Joe Nemechek’s Ginn Racing entry in Saturday night’s Nextel Cup race in Darlington.
As advocated here at FT for the longest time it appears the game of mechanical hop-scotch required to compete with both the “old” and new CORN cars has pounded some common sense into the majority of team owners. Most teams want NASCAR to use the car exclusively in 2008 and for a change NASCAR may be listening to the crowd roar. Maybe.
<a href=”http://benchracing.typepad.com/bench_racing_with_steve_a/2007/05/how_would_earnh.html” title=”Bench Racing with Steve and Charlie” asks the following question that is based on current rumors being floated: Where would Dale Jr rank in a team that has Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson and Kyle Busch?
I’m thinking third in line behind Baby Busch, but your mileage may vary.
