Atlanta Motor Speedway: And Sources say….

Changes are rumored to be afoot, according to un-named and frequently wrong “sources,” that Atlanta Motor Speedways race date will be moved to Labor Day in 2009.

The speculation centers on previous discussions that had a trade of race dates for the 2009 Sprint Cup schedule that involves Fontana, and Talladega Superspeedway.

One of the Atlanta dates, presumably the early one, would also be held under the lights.

I can hear about 100 thousand plus Cali fans, most especially this one, breathing a sigh of relief they won’t have to sit in the 110 degree heat as they have in the past. I can also predict the screaming will be loud, clear and decidedly against Fontana being added as a Chase event.

Oh well… get over it.

This adds to the previous speculation that has a NNS date given to Iowa Speedway and Chicagoland will get a Truck date.

I was thinking it was a bit early to release next years schedule so I went looking. The 2008 sched was announced the last week of Sept, 2007. However the 2007 sched didn’t get published until Thanksgiving 2006.

So take your pick, early late, whatever. One things sure, Texas Motor Speedway’s Eddie Gossage knows something, he’s announced the tracks entire 2009 schedule.

UPDATE: Fontana president Gillian Zucker, via the LA Times, has confirmed the date change with the tracks event scheduled for Oct. 11, 2009.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled, mostly for the race fans,” Zucker said, adding that “to be in NASCAR’s form of the playoffs [with the Chase] is something that’s very special.”

Mostly for the fans she says?!

What to hell else is there? And she couldn’t bring herself to call the Chase by its correct name opting for “NASCAR’s form of the playoffs?” What a dweeb.

More evidence, not that I need it, she should be shown the door. Pronto.

To bad Humpy has a brand new gig, he’d be the perfect candidate to fill the place with actual butts rather than empty seats painted to resemble butts.

  1. Good stuff Marc. Thanks for the heads up. I was kind of hoping for an ARCA date on that TMS schedule. Would have been fun to do a remote of ON PIT ROW live from the Thunder Lounge itself!

  2. Don’t thank me Charlie, thank those un-named sources.

Just passing on the latest poop and as you can see by the update Gillian “The Clueless” Zucker has confirmed the news.

  3. Charlie,
Would love to see an ARCA race at TMS someday. Heck, I would even supply the beer for you and your crew! We can always wish, maybe in a couple of a years.

  4. Charlie, okla, just because TMS announced their ‘09 sched doesn’t mean ARCA won’t be going there. It could only mean like the rest of the ARCA sched it isn’t finalized as yet.
