Power over the Vegas Kerbs

Team Australia’s Will Power took victory in the opening race of the Champ Car World Series season in Las Vegas.

The reigning CCWS Rookie-of-the-Year from Queensland started on pole, and drove a faultless race, finishing a full 16 seconds clear of Minardi Team USA’s Robert Doornbos, with Paul Tracy of Forsythe Championship Racing down in third.

Las Vegas resident Paul Tagliani finished fourth with CCWS rookie Frenchman Tristan Gommendy fifth

Katherine Legge fared the best of the British drivers, recording an impressive sixth place finish. The finish matched her previous best achieved at the Time Warner Cable Road Runner 225 at the Milwaukee Mile last year.

Dan Clarke’s race came to a premature end after a shunt on lap 13, while Justin Wilson was forced to retire due to a mechanical problem on lap 20. Ryan Dalziel was well off the pace, down in 11th.

World champion Sebastien Bourdais seeking his fourth consecutive series championship endured a disappointing afternoon, crashing out on the 30th lap.

SeaBass’ highly touted rookie teammate, Graham Rahal, who fell out of the race on the first green flag lap after he was pushed into the wall by Dan Clarke.

The Champ Car World Series returns to action next week with the running of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
