Auto Racing: And the Survey Says…
Said in my best Richard Dawson voice: “The forth most popular sport is America is?”
“And the survey says… Auto Racing.”
With the current sorry state of racing series other than NASCAR in America it’s a lead pipe cinch the vast majority had PCNA’s toy in mind when answering the question. It’s interesting, running counter to the current meme, racings popularity has actually gained a couple points over the last two years.
Guess all those that have “sworn off” NASCAR or racing in general, really haven’t. But we knew that didn’t we? For the most part they let emotions run ahead of their keyboard and spew the most idiotic thoughts known to modern man. (setting aside a couple Neanderthals here and there.)
AND SPEAKING of popularity, PCNA & Co. must be living hog heaven about now. The Sprint Cup can’t even get by it’s first major practice session without an on track incident between the presumptive leader of the Dodge Boys and Toyota’s new standard bearer.
Press baby! Headlines baby! It’s the stuff money can’t buy. Even at $550,000 per 30 seconds for the 500. NOTE: Fox’s male 18-34 rating last season was up 7 percent to a 3.1. which runs counter to the survey’s findings. ESPN also noted a rise in the same age group for the then Busch Series.
Pretty funny stuff. Which according to reports is how Jeff Gordon and Chad Knaus saw it as they laughed at the sight of Tony Stewart trudging off to The NASCAR Trailer.
I suspect NASCAR will ignore all but Busch’s playing bumper cars under yellow, beyond that I don’t see Stewart nailed for anything.
We’ll see, should be an interesting Tuesday around NASCAR HQ deciding how to reconcile the boys will be boys edict given and whacking Kurt’s pee-pee for his infraction.
UPDATE: So tell me Robby isn’t a Dodge the same as a Ford? I mean really, the new cars only differ in the engine compartment so your switch shouldn’t have created a problem that was detected in the nose of your spanking new decaled GEM Dodge.
Whatever. Robby, it’ll be another Fine Day come Tuesday.
So when does the Jet Fuel come into play? (the peanut gallery snarks)

Seriously, on Tradin’ Paint Friday afternoon, Kyle Petty remarked that “the core fans are the 5,000 people who went to a race at Rockingham, not the 55,000, or 155.000 who fill the seats now. NASCAR has left the core base behind because they needed to.”
I followed your battle on Poole’s blog with a couple or three of these digruntled fans you mention, with great relish and enthusiastically cheering you on. I don’t think those people will ever get it.
RevJim’s last blog post..And so it begins….
I see Kyles point, but his number is way low. The sport never would have made it past the days of Fred Lorenzen if the core amounted to less than 10,000.
As for the Poole thing, a couple is correct, but mostly the so called monkeesfan, a/k/a Mike Daly. He’s not disgruntled. He’s a dyed-in-the-wool nutcase who will post the complete opposite point of view from one day to the next.
Put another way, a classic blog troll.
