Biffle Sweeps California

posted in NASCAR |

FONTANA - Greg Biffle pulled off a California Speedway sweep by winning the NASCAR Busch Series Target House 300 on Saturday, taking the lead with three laps to go and holding off a pesky Casey Mears.

Biffle, a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series regular for Roush Racing, also won the spring Busch Series race at California Speedway. He won both races in the same Ford Taurus, one that almost didn’t make it out of Michigan in one piece.

“It made a great duel because we kept swapping positions back and forth,” said Biffle, who won his fifth Busch Series race of the season in the No. 60 Ford for Roush Racing. “I had to block him. You usually don’t have to do that on 2-mile race tracks. Because I needed the bottom, that’s just the way it was, I needed the bottom. It was fun racing him.”

Biffle and Mears changed leads four times in the last 10 laps of the race. Battling for position, the two drivers came within inches of colliding coming off Turn 4 with two laps to go in the race.

“When you’re trying to win a race, I think both guys are trying to get every inch,” said Mears, the Bakersfield driver of the No. 41 Chip Ganassi Racing Dodge. “I think the race was really clean. We never touched the whole time. That’s all you can ask for.”

“The guys have just gotten the car handling great,” Biffle said. “I couldn’t complain. The track was really slick in the middle part of the race and toward the end. My car was handling especially well at the end. That’s the only way I can keep up with Casey.”
