Blaney, Schrader and Wallace to Appear at Outlaw Motor Speedway
A trio of NASCAR drivers will be racing Monday on the dirt track at Outlaw Motor Speedway for the track’s second annual NASCAR night.
Sprint Cup driver Dave Blaney will be joined by NASCAR veterans Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader, both of whom raced at OMS last year in the initial event.
No stranger to dirt track racing in eastern Oklahoma, Blaney said he’s looking forward to returning to the state.
“I do not know a lot about the track, but if racing there is anything like it was when I competed in sprint cars in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, I’m in for a fun ride,” said Blaney, a Hartford, Ohio, native. “I remember coming to Oklahoma because of the competition and I’m looking forward to Monday night.”
More than 6,000 fans witnessed the event last year when Bixby’s Greg Skaggs outran Schrader and Wallace. Officials are preparing for a similar-size crowd this year.
Wallace has worked extensively with OMS co-owner Lynn Skinner to bring some NASCAR involvement to the Muskogee track.
“Ken and I want to do everything we can to help the races in Muskogee grow,” Wallace said. “I’ve driven at over a hundred tracks, and Outlaw is one of the finest facilities around. They’ve spent a lot of money on the track and promoting racing.”
Wallace and Blaney raced in Chicago this weekend — Wallace in the Nationwide Series on Friday night and Blaney in the LifeLock.com 400 Sprint Cup race on Saturday. Schrader had three nights of
dirt track racing in Illinois and Missouri.
At Outlaw, Blaney will drive a modified built and owned by Chelsea’s Joe Duvall. Schrader and Wallace will bring their own modified cars to OMS.
In fact, Wallace is going to arrive at OMS on Monday afternoon after a 500-mile overnight drive from a Sunday night race in Iowa.
Blaney, a former World of Outlaws points champion, started racing full-time on the Sprint Cup circuit in 2000.
“That takes a lot of my time; I only get to events like the one in Muskogee only four or five times a year,” Blaney said. “It’s a lot of fun to return to the dirt. That is where I learned racing.”
An autograph session begins at 5:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. The grandstands open at 5 p.m.
