Brake Ducts?… We Don’t Need No Stinking Brake Ducts
Williams’ joy at getting both cars home in the points - and putting Ralf Schumacher back on the podium after almost a year-long absence - was quickly cooled by notification from the stewards that both its cars - along with those from Toyota - would be excluded from the results.
Both teams have apparently fallen foul of the rulebook following the mandatory post-race technical checks. In both cases, it is understood that the brake ducts fitted to their cars - and specifically the sizes thereof - contravened the regulations.
Braking is vitally important - and notoriously marginal - at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, leading teams to take every precaution that they can to prevent loss of retardation.
After the debacle at the Nurburgring two weeks ago, Williams and BMW were particularly pleased to get both cars home in the points, while Cristiano da Matta notched up only his second scoring result of the season with Toyota. Ralf Schumacher qualified on pole for Williams and led the first half of the race before coming home as runner-up behind brother Michael. It was his first podium appearance since last season’s French Grand Prix.
“The two Toyotas and two Williams have been excluded,” an FIA spokeswoman confirmed to members of the media in Montreal.
The revised result, following the exclusions, moves Jenson Button up to collect another podium finish, having originally claimed fourth place, while David Coulthard and Jordan pairing Timo Glock and Nick Heidfeld all move into the top eight. If the result is confirmed pending any appeals, Glock will join the select band of drivers to have scored points on his F1 debut. The German only stepped into the breach at the last moment when regular pilot Giorgio Pantano’s sponsorship payments faltered.
Revised top eight is “below the fold.”

Williams admit their mistake and will not appeal; Toyota missed the deadline for filing the appeal, so for all practical matters it is over.
I would love to find out the details of the infractions, have you any suggestions for a site with such info?
