George Gillett Jr., majority owner of Richard Petty Motorsports, said he hopes to form a stock-car league in Saudi Arabia as part of a contractual agreement he signed this week with Saudi Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah al-Saud, a member of the Saudi royal family.

Johnny Herbert scored a dominant win in the penultimate round of the Speedcar Series on Saturday morning in Bahrain.

Former grand prix winner Jean Alesi charged his way through the pack to win Saturday’s Speedcar Series race at Dubai Autodrome, to add to his victory from the previous day.

Speedcar Series will run the fourth round of the season at the Dubai Autodrome on February 27-28, 2009.

MotoGP star Marco Melandri came within four laps of a shock Speedcar Series victory under the lights at Losail in Qatar on Saturday night, but a mechanical failure took him out, handing the victory to Vitantonio Liuzzi, who headed an Italian 1-2-3.

Johnny Herbert won the second Speedcar Series race held in Bahrain Saturday. It was a win that came down to the wire with Gianni Morbidelli in second spot and a surprise podium for new driver Thomas Biagi in third.

Jean Alesi won the first Speedcar Series race of the weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit. The Frenchman who started second on the grid was joined on the podium by Heinz Harald Frentzen in second position and Johnny Herbert in third.

Speedcar Series will hold its second round in Bahrain this Friday and Saturday, January 23-24, 2009. There will be 15 drivers on the grid representing 8 teams over the 2 races this weekend.

Ex-Formula 1 racer Vitantonio Liuzzi won the opening round of the second Speedcar season after a dramatic encounter at the Dubai Autodrome.

Speedcar Series’ second season begins this weekend at the Dubai Autodrome with 14 cars on the grid. The Speedcars will be run by 7 teams from six countries across Europe, the Middle East and United States.
