Coleman on Pole, But Wallace is Faster
Title doesn’t sound right does it?
Brad Coleman driving the Federated Car Care-Brewco Motorsports Ford scored his second career ARCA Pole Friday at Kansas Speedway with a time of 32.166 seconds at 167.879 mph. As always pole position doesn’t mean much once the green drops and more times than not it places a very large target on your rear bumper.
Steve Wallace, in his father Rusty Wallace’s Nu South Lemonade Dodge emphasized that point by topping final practice speed charts with a blistering 169.913 mph lap, more than 2 mph faster than pole sitter Coleman. Wallace sits outside pole with a speed of 167.530 mph.
Hope they checked Steve’s car after practice looking for a hidden nitrious bottle. Maybe the team found that elusive “something” in practice to set such a high speed. Or maybe the car was running on fumes with a grill opening completely closed off with 200 mph tape. Whatever the case the field may not be seein’ much of Wallace in their mirrors - until he laps them.
Evernham development driver Erin Crocker clocked in the Hamburger Helper Dodge at 167.317mph to sit inside the second row alongside Scott Lagasse’s Dodge Motorsports sponsored Charger. Seven time ARCA Champ Frank Kimmel will start fifth.
Former NASCAR drivers in the field include Andy Belmont (30th), Norm Benning (33rd on a provisional) and ageless James Hylton (37th on a provisional).
