Great story here…but I have a question with the very last sentence ” All of which points to Steve Hmiel being replaced by Eury Jr. shortly after seasons end.”
I know it may look obvious, but why couldn’t Eury Jr. go to the #1 team?
I’m thinking Jr. likes Hmiel, especially after last week’s win. How do we know Jr and Hmiel would split up?
Lew
We don’t know for sure they will split up, that’s just my guess. One win under Hmiel doesn’t compare with the long history J. had with Eury Jr. From someone looking at it from the outside it’s possible Jr. might want to rekindle what brought him this far in his career.
Personally I tend to believe Jr. is treading water career wise unless he gets out from under Teresa’s influence, but that’s a whole other matter.
I think Mikey is leaving over the Eury problem; Eury will be with either Jr. or Truex and Waltrip will struggle with what effectively will become a new team.
Not where he needs to be at this time in his career.
If he can’t land a quality team ride with or without NAPA he will go to the TV booth immediately if not sooner. Only question is has he gotten the racing monkey off his back? I’d like to believe that he thinks with a competitive team he can win a few more. Four career wins isn’t the legacy I’d want to leave behind if I thought I could still get it done.
