Cywinski Captures Pole For Lanier 250

When all 50 cars had taken their chance in qualifying, it was Kevin Cywinski in the No. 1 Country Joe Homes Chevrolet capturing the Jani-King pole, his first for the season and tenth overall. The remainder of the top 10 are Casey Smith, Robbie Pyle, Butch Miller, Mike Garvey, Doug Stevens, Stephen Leicht, Rick Beebe, Greg Stewart and Todd Kluever.

But it wasn’t without controversy. Here’s Butch Millers take on Mike Copes efforts in practice.

?Some guys picked up a lot more speed than I wonder if it is possible, particularly the No. 25 car,? Miller said, specifically pointing out Mike Cope. ?I don?t know, but sometimes you just wonder about things. Sometimes, some of the racers out there have been known to read rules better than I think they should be read.?

In the past, ASA officials have suspected a problem with Cope?s engine, which, at the time, he failed to turn over for inspection. When asked of Miller?s allegations, Cope responded:

?I guess that is our secret to keep and theirs to find out. That old guy has won a bunch of races and I haven?t won any of these things yet. I don?t know why he is looking at me.?

It could be the finger is being pointed because Cope had his previous “engine problem”, and failed to resolve the issue. Then again maybe Mike’s quick practice time was a fluke, and calling him out had an effect. Note Cope’s final qualifying time didn’t place him in the top ten.
