DEI: Could be Something, or Nothing at All

Make of this what you will:

ERLANGER, Ky., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Max Siegel, President of Global Operations for Dale Earnhardt Inc., one of NASCAR’s premier racing teams, will be they keynote breakfast speaker at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America’s (TEMA) Opportunity Exchange (OE) on Tuesday, November 11th from 7:30 - 9 a.m. at the Duke Energy Center in Downtown Cincinnati.

On its face I’d say it means nothing at all.

At the same time I can’t resist the thought of this “connection” leading to something major in the future. Major as in a DEI switch to Toyota.

Yes that’s pure fantasy, I think.

But if it were to occur the line of Earnhardt Nation members outside Dr. Phil’s office would snake through ten or more city blocks.

Just in case, MeThinks I’ll hedge a bet and invest in a few stocks of Xanax manufacturers.

  1. You cover Xanex, I’ll cover Prozac. Between the two of us, we should be able to scrape together a tidy sum.

I’d probably lean to the nothing side, although I’m not sure when their deal with Chevy is up.

  2. Well, considering Gillett Evernham is most likely headed to Toyota (can anyone blame them after they got jacked around for a year on the new Dodge engine?) is there any room for DEI in the Toyota camp?

If you include GEM, Toyota will have Gibbs, Waltrip, Red Bull, Hall of Fame and GEM.

Also, if DEI goes Toyota, that would tear asunder its joint engine program with Childress.

There really isn’t anywhere for DEI to go. Ganassi is probably going to do a merger deal with Petty, which makes a whole lot of sense. So DEI is left to start the year with probably just two cars instead of four.

  3. I agree Doug, DEI have damn few options. Although somehow, somewhere I think they will pull at least one more full-time sponsor out of the hat before Speed Weeks.
