Derek Daly Says - IT’S ON!
The IRL and Champ Car merger that is. For this year allegedly.
24-Hour News 8 racing analyst Derek Daly says the merge between the IRL and Champ Car is imminent and vitally important for American open wheel racing. But he adds, it will take a few years before all teams are competing at the same level.“It will take year three, which is 2010, when everybody gets new cars before all teams have a realistic chance to become competitive against a Penske, a Gnassi or an Andretti Green.
Excuse me, someone let me know when, IT… actually happens. That way I can crawl out of this tub of ice water used to keep my “merger temperature” to a reasonable level.
Daly expects Champ Car to file for bankruptcy in the coming days in a move that will facilitate a smooth merger.
Well D’OH! May as well make it official instead of running around in a pseudo-billionaires costume.
It looks like the CCWS defections may have begun regardless of a merger happening as team boss Derrick Walker says he’s leaning that way merger, or no merger.
What the hell, Get R Done! IndyCar can’t live by this alone. At this point not even a little NASCAR cross-pollination can help. (Thank Jeff for sharing anyway.)

I fully expect the announcement of “IT” to come somewhere around Lap 120 this Sunday. Such is life for open-wheel racing fans.
Yes…
… but does it matter unless it’s said by Pope John Daly?
Brilliant! Lap 120 should just about do it, I couldn’t have come up with a better plan myself.
