(NOTE: This post was bumped from it’s original date of 01 Sept. and will remain at the top for the next few days.) Below youi will find a long list of race teams and organizations that have offered support to those affected by Katrina. If you have items to add drop them in the comments section and I will add them.

Also I urge those that have family or friends in the area, or just looking for a way to help, please visit HurricAid. It’s an ongoing project that has compiled information on vast array subjects related to the Gulf Coast disaster.

Hurricane Katrina might have altered NASCAR Busch Series driver Kim Crosby’s plans for racing this weekend at California Speedway.

A former junior high school principal from Slidell, La., Crosby was supposed to leave New Orleans by airplane Wednesday, but NASCAR representatives have not been able to reach her or her team.

She evacuated Louisiana before the hurricane hit, according to a NASCAR representative. (It has been reported that Kim Crosby is safe and well. “I’m one of the lucky ones,” Crosby said. “We were able to get out of the path of the storm and we’ll have something to come home to. So many people didn’t have a way to leave and now are being forced to evacuate as their homes are being destroyed by the flood. I cannot fathom what they have had to endure, what they are still enduring.

“My heart goes out to all of those people who are still stuck in New Orleans.”)

UPDATE: Kathy has posted an Email she received from the David Carrington, President of RacingUSA.com, that outlines what his company is doing to raise money to assist those in need in the Gulf Coast region. I have reproduced the Email below (Click “Show More”) and urge everyone to aid this effort.
