Does This Mean No More Ricky Bobby?
As it happens HBO (Asia) has played Talladega Nights about 5 times in the last three days in my neck of the Pacific. If nothing else it has allowed me the opportunity to hone my speed remote skills. It’s hard to tell but I think I can shift away from HBO within the first 3 frames of Talladega Nights.
That said, there’s reason to note this Hollywood crapola other than to rant about its lack of any redeeming social value.
According to the New York Post Nascar Vice President Dick Glover, the main reason the organization has been so closely associated with Hollywood, has resigned.
Glover is leaving to take a position with FunnyorDie.com the website started by… wait for it… Will Ferrell. As John Daly notes Glover is one of six six Executive Producers for Talladega Nights.
Good riddance!
Maybe now someone with an ounce of sense will assume the position and downplay Hollywood’s influence. With the exception of the movie Cars Hollyweird has done little to nothing to advance NASCAR’s image. To my way of thinking Talladega Nights did nothing but perpetuate too many stereotypes.
The stereotypes would still exist of course, but at least they wouldn’t but reinforced by a flic fully backed by NASCAR and one that made well over $50 million in ticket sales.
