Dream a Little Talladega Dream
Dustin Long writing for The Virginian Pilot and the Roanoke Times has a report out on Cot testing at Talladega and the possibility of restrictor plate racing seeing it’s last days.
Specifically, a test session scheduled for the CoT at Talladega next month will help officials determine if they can use a larger restrictor plate there and at Daytona.
Former research and development director Gary Nelson said the biggest purpose of the test is to figure out the engine package for the races at Daytona and Talladega and “maybe there is an alternative or elimination of the restrictor plate down the road.”
This past spring Elliot Sadler (remember him?) sat on the Talladega pole with a speed of 188.511 mph, 50.798 secs. He also had the pole last October at 189.260.
It was a year ago when the CoT first hit the high banks in Alabama. Petty Enterprises built the Dodge that Kyle Petty drove, Roush Racing built the Carl Edwards Ford and NASCAR built Brett Bodine’s Chevy.
Petty, Edwards and Bodine took to the track separately and in drafting combinations.
