Earnhardt Jr Rumor Mongers Unite!

Rumor Mongers

I wonder if the phrase “there’s strength in numbers” applies to those that deal with NASCAR rumors on a retail basis?

If so big doin’s are in store Thursday morning at the shops of DEI.

Jerry Bonkowski, of Yahoo Sports, is touting a “highly placed source within DEI” and additional sources “familiar with the situation” that Junior and teammate Martin Truex Jr. are leaving DEI at the end of this season and will drive for Earnhardt’s Busch Series operation, JR Motorsports.

NASCAR’s website has united under that rumor by relaying a Dave Moody report on Sirius Speedway Wednesday.

For their part ESPN throws a dash of ice water on the notion. They have “sources” within JR Motorsports that deny previous reports and say they are inaccurate.

Will “I think you doth protest too much” with regards to the denial come into play? We’ll see come Thursday AM.

We’ll also see if what I wrote last December holds true: “… it

This is funny. I don’t care who you are.

Not saying impossible, but c’mon. The freaks are circling the wagons, Margaret. Get me my gun.

Anybody considered it might be for their Busch program? It could be. Might not be, but could be. Then again, it could be to announce going somewhere else, and they didn’t want to do it at the “new shop”. Hell, that would give it away. Jr to hold press conference at RCR. Shit, that just tells ya straight off what’s going on.

Sources being 180deg our of phase, I’m sticking with a comment I made this morning. Well crafted media tactics. I am surprised that Nascar.com has that big ass banner at the top at the moment though. Breaking news. Right, OK. We’ll see in the morning though I guess.

I will say, though, that running for himself like rumored by one side would be suicide. Many have tried, and look where they are now. With the exception of Robby Gordon, driving for himself again, but he isn’t exactly running neck and neck for the title either.

You know, I thought about this and just had to mention it again.

Someone, be it ESPN or NASCAR/Bonkowski/Moody, is going to come out looking like a jackass on this deal.
