ESPN Blogs, or Lack Thereof

Forgive the snark, but it’s well deserved.

I have kept a watchful eye on ESPN’s “electronic birdcage liners” (Thanks Luke) since noticing they fly in the face of any true definition of what a blog actually is.

Adding to their disgrace is the fact they require you to shell out cash for a magazine subscription to read anything beyond an excerpt of a post.

After watching a while I have come to the conclusion that the mag subscription requirement is more of a farce than first impression warranted. You must reach into your wallet for nothing, as in no posts equals no excerpts.

Example: David Newton hasn’t posted a fresh entry since 11 January.

Example: Terry Blunt has a new entry dated 23 Jan. on Montoya’s star power and the first three days of NASCAR’s media gaggle.

Prior to that? Nothing since last week on the 17th.

There is one glaring omission on both “blogs,” aside from daily postings. Not even a hint of the passing of one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers, Benny Parsons.

How can that be? Every NASCAR related blog and news source noted the sad passing of Benny. But not these two hacks.

Putting on my “fairness doctrine hat” I have to acknowledge both writers have full plates writing other columns for other outlets. That said, it fails to meet the smell test they couldn’t toss out a para or two even if it were snatched from one of their other writing venues.

ESPN, wake-up, these two need to get busy pounding the keyboard or be replaced with someone who will. (write me for a [single paragraph] resum
