Europe Invades NASCAR

The NASCAR Busch Series has seen the inclusion of Japan in the form of the Toyota Truck teams competing. The NASCAR Weekly Series (Atlantic Div.) will also be seeing an invasion of sorts. First from Bob Croyton who has seen duty in the American LeMans Series and the Daytona 24hrs Race.

British all-rounder Rob Croydon has announced an initial 12 race deal with Kerry Lawrence Motorsports to contest NASCAR’s Weekly Racing Series Atlantic Division in a Pontiac Grand Prix.

The 35 year old Kent based driver has already completed a test with the Winston-Salem based team, declaring it a success.

“I enjoyed being back in the seat of a NASCAR after nearly nine-month lay-off,” he said, “Kerry has produced a very good race car which is responsive and the engine felt good, although it was only the test motor.”

The taste of Italy will arrive to the same Weekly Series by Italian driver Gian Maria Gabbiani. He will team up with Croyton in a second Lawrence Motorsports entry.

The 26 year old driver from Milan, Italy will drive a Kerry Lawrence Motorsports Pontiac Grand Prix #46 car with backing from new partners Red Devil Energy Drinks.

“Having the deal with Red Devil is very inspiring for me,” he said, “The have a great brand and are really nice people to work with. I plan to develop that relationship further.”

Gabbiani had a taste of NASCAR last year when he competed in one race at the end of the season, as well as competing in Italian Formula 3 and driving a Ferrari Modena F360GT at the Turin Motor Show race.
