First F1 “Crash” in Singapore

The first crash at the Singapore Grand Prix involved the ticketing system, with fans left queuing and phoning for hours on the opening day of sales on Thursday.

The New Straits Times described the performance of Singapore’s ticketing procedures as “complete chaos.” The problems led Singapore’s ministry of trade and industry to issue a statement of concern on Thursday evening.

But when the chaos resumed on Friday, the race’s organizer, Singapore GP, convened an emergency meeting.

Singapore is staging the first night race in Formula One history on a downtown street circuit on Sept. 28. Organizers released 70,000 three-day passes through phone lines, the Internet and outlets around the city and said the volume of calls and clicks had overwhelmed the network.

Oopsy!

I’d bet a buck or two part of the crash was from calls coming from the land of the “Roos.”
