Food Fight, and Other Things

So the race to the Chase is over and allegedly the pressure is off the ten Anointed Ones™.

If you believe the pie throwing episodes between NHIS pole winning Kevin Harvick and rookie Denny Hamlin is an indication of that you’re deluding yourself. While it’s great comedy and I wish I had witnessed them (I only hope they weren’t chocolate cream my favorite) the sudden spate of slapstick shouldn’t last longer than a race or two. If that long. There’s too much on the line and one finish in the thirties will result in a self induced “pie in the face” by an engine builder, jackman or the driver himself.

My quote of the day comes by way of Robby Gordon speaking about the failed link-up with RYR and other related matters concerning his one car operation: “I’m done talking to other teams. [They] just don’t have an interest, to be honest with you,” Gordon said Friday. “We’re going to keep our own little program, and we’re going to build it.”

[Speculation alert!] Could it be other teams have backed away from Robby because they are afraid to associate their programs with someone that has clearly shown to be a hothead when he feels it’s warranted? (yes, others fit the label, save it. “Others” aren’t looking to make a deal at the moment.)

The quote also shows a clear intent to expand past the present single car and speculation (there’s that word again) is a switch to the Ford camp. I’m sticking by my Toyota prediction. The current financial situation at the Blue Oval’s World Headquarters, plus Bill Ford stepping down has me thinking there may be a retrenching of the entire Ford Racing program. We”ll see in coming months. (NOTE: for the Toyota haters who believe the company doesn’t “belong” the Kentucky plant is about to turn out the 5 millionth American made Camry)

Courtesy of Darren who points to a third birthday not many NASCAR fans want to celebrate. If you haven’t tried his Fantasy Racing Wizard what are you waiting for?

The South Florida fans must be expecting a close finish to the Chase. And betting with their wallets, the Homestead event has been sold out since June. Track president Curtis Gray has announced they intend to build extra grandstands in the turn four especially for the Chase finale.
