For General Absorption on Wednesday
Just a few stories and ideas that crossed my desk the last few hours.
And yes, before you ask, I still have power 10 hours after the “illustious” electric company said they would shut down thier rodent powered generation facility. I haven’t a clue, it may go at anytime, than again it may not.
Anyway, in the real world, Roush Racing has announced its replacement for Mark Martin. I had speculated Eric Darrnell may have been the ultimate selection, but I guess I was out to lunch. David Ragan is Roush’s choice to replace Mark Martin in the #6 Ford next season and the car will retain AAA as primary sponsor.
Three hardy & loud cheers for Joe Nemechek. Front Row Joe doesn’t just carry the U.S. Army livery on th #01 without respecting what the Service stands for, he’s taking action to show that respect and give a little back to those that serve.
Early Sunday morning, Nemechek and a small entourage - including his mother Martha Nemechek - will jet to Guantanamo Bay to visit troops on behalf of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
Three cheers for Goodyear as well. I had the “pleasure” of making a port call at Gitmo in the late eighties and the place ain’t any picnic and given the current situation there I suspect it’s a thousand times worse.
How much would you guess NASCAR is worth to the North Carolina economy? If you guess anything too far afield from $6 BILLION each year you’d be wrong. WRAL has produced a documentary, “Wheels of Fortune” that examines economic impact on North Carolina and specificlly the Raleigh-Durham area.
While I won’t have an opportunity to view the 4-part series it sounds interesting. It will be broadcast on WRAL NewsChannel and digital cable channel 256 or digital channel 5.2. Times are listed at the link provided.
A note on Formula One: Recently F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone announced the addition of Korea as the 18th event to the F1 calender. It means Asia will host at least five races from 2010

That is good news about Spa, I would not shed a tear for the loss of some cicuits eg. Imola. Spa however is on a different level. Combined with the fickle weather of the Ardennes forrest & it is the one venue that almost always delivers a “race”.
Hungary should be given the heave-ho as a track because it has truely been out grown by the cars. It will never happen though, Bernie needs a Eastern European presence & Hunguary is it.Maybe he could put his hand in his pocket & under write a new facility……….God I’m naive.
If Bernie demands an Eastern EU presence he can move into the track they have in what was East Germany. Off the top of my head I can’t remember the name of it but the A1GP held an even there last year.
Last weekends A1GP race was in Brno Chech(however you spell the rest of it) That could be called Eastern EU.
