Someone is sending Bernie air kisses. Or worse.
The Russian city of St Petersburg has laid out its plans to stage a Formula One grand prix to Bernie Ecclestone, according to Russian sports minister Viatcheslav Fetissov.
“We have made a proposition to Bernie Ecclestone,” Fetissov said. “We have good contacts with him.”
Ecclestone, who manages the rights to the sport through the Formula One Management (FOM) group, has backed a number of new venues for world championship races in recent years with Bahrain, China and Turkey all added with Abu Dhabi being added to the 2009 calender this week.
Ah-huh. I’ll believe St Petersburg has a shot about the same time as Iceland gets it’s F1 event.
Despite Bernie having the reputation as a pussy cat (ask Tamara and Petra) he’s no fool. Russia does have a small section of society that are rich beyond comprehension but they are far and few in between.
More importantly, there’s not enough of them to fill a 150,000 seat race venue to capacity. No butts in the seats means no money added to Bernie’s estimated $5 billion fortune.
Besides F1’s dance card is full with no room for additional races. Sorry guys you can all pack sand, or should I say snow. Nice try though.

Utter bs, every new venue has had govt backing, Malaysia, Turkey, China etc.
Yeah, like the Russian govt is going under right this.
India on the other hand will have a GP in the future as will Singapore…you heard it 1st from me.
