Hark, it’s a Blithering Idiot!
It appears as if FOM Chief Bernie Ecclestone has decided to try and use the current economic meltdown to his advantage this week by offering the teams more financial freedom in return for a bigger commitment to the pinnacle of Motorsports.
To hear The Gnome of F1 all this talk of downsizing and cost cutting is just that, talk.
Well, that is if current teams pledge their support to FOM and F1 long term, like seven to ten years long term.
If that occurs The Gnome claims doing it this way would prevent other teams repeating Honda’s recent withdrawal from the sport because then they could be sued for doing so.
“If the manufacturers are prepared to make a long-term commitment, say seven to 10 years, we should let them spend what they want to spend, providing they supply engines and gearboxes at an affordable price. It would prevent the kind of thing we have seen with Honda because we could sue the arse off them if they left. They wouldn’t like that.”
Yeah that’s the ticket, toss aside what has already spent to cut costs, put muzzles on the bean counters, and pay no attention to both Williams and Renault rumored to be living on borrowed time and may be gone regardless after 2009.
Oh, and that whole KERS thing, they was just joshing, really.
“I have always been against KERS. Whatever they use in F1 they won’t use in a road car, but if that is to be the idea then why not develop it in touring cars. It costs a lot of money when we are trying to save it.”
Anyone know the scientific or medical name for duel personality?
How about nitwit, is there one for that?

Well Williams have as good as admitted that they have been operating on a small loss for the last few seasons. But go on to say that if the new cost cuts had not been introduced then the future of the team was in question. Why Frank & Toyota dont merge is beyond my level of understanding?
These are going to be tough times for several seaons & I’m not convinced that the teams/manufacturers are ready to bite the bullet of radical change. The GP2 grid could end up being the feature race at this rate.
