Has the NASCAR Magnet Reversed Poles?
Those that have hung around this place for any length of time know I call the irresistible attraction to NASCAR as The NASCAR Magnet.
The Series has always attracted a certain amount of open wheel types starting decades ago with A.J. Foyt and Mario. Open wheeler Jeff Gordon ushered in the modern era of the NASCAR Magnet.
Maybe there is a small indication the poles of that Magnet maybe reversing if only on a temporary basis.
Reports are surfacing that NASCAR Toyota Red Bull Nextel Cup driver A.J. Allmendinger is trying to get out of his NASCAR contract with Toyota and move to the Indy Racing League in 2008.
Allmendinger has had something far less than a stellar rookie year in Nextel Cup with Toyota Red Bull team. And there are those Scott “I can’t get an F1 job” Speed rumors floated by none other than Red Bull’s owner.
With as many as three top rides up for grabs in the open wheel series, Ganassi

First I’ve heard of the AJ rumor. Hope its not true - even tho I could understand the move. The dude wants to race for Red Bull on Sunday - not sit on the couch and drink it. In the few races he’s run this year, he’s been fun to watch. And he’s a tremendous TV interview - especially when compared to the cardboard cutout guys we’ve got sprinkled in the top 20 in points. I hope he’ll leg it out another year or two before jumping to another series. Maybe if can detangle himself from Red Bull he’ll have other shots.
