Helio Dancing with the NASCAR Stars?

Well, its come to this, a reality show winner is considering walking the walk (crab-walk or otherwise) and talking the talk by possibly shifting allegiances from IndyCar to NASCAR.

Two-time Indy 500 winner, Dancing with the Stars winner and Team Penske driver Helio Castroneves is open to the possibilities of Tin-Top racing.

“I won’t deny that I’m thinking about it,” Castroneves said Monday night. “It would be great to one day try the [stock] cars. But at this point I’m focusing on Indy cars and winning the Indianapolis 500 again.”

Asked if he had talked to Roger Penske about his interest in NASCAR, Castroneves said, “We’re going to talk after Indy.”

I could get real snarky about now…

On second thought, I will. Will the last one out of the IndyCar paddock please shut out the lights?

  1. If he decides to go…..who would blame him.Actually, considering his higher profile (Danica excluded) I’m stunned he has not already made a grab for the cash.

  2. Note the “after Indy” remark, Helio The Dancing Bear” Castroneves may be holding out with the thought of winning Indy 500 for the third time and joining a very elite crowd.

  3. Roger needs somebody for the rumored fourth Cup car. Not to mention a replacement for the likely leaving Rocket Man.

  4. I think Newman is toast at Penske myself Charlie, the guy is all “rocket” and no “orbit” so to speak.

13 wins total and 8 were in his single “signature” year. Time for him to migrate down a stop of two on the NASCAR team power ranking.

Penske’s 4th car and Helio I’m not so sure about at the moment, one is still a rumor and the other awaits his 3rd 500 win.

  5. Charlie, IMO Penske needs to concentrate on getting their third car running well before they look at a fourth team.

I think it’d be great to see Helio running in NASCAR, though … I wonder if he’d do any better than these other guys that have migrated to stock cars, though.

  6. I just read that the retiring DJ has amassed in excess of 50 million in winnings during his career. Helio has won 5.1 million, including two massive Indy 500 payouts.

As a racer you’d have to be a fool not to consider NASCAR somewhere along a career path. And it’s probably a lot less stressful and a whole lot more fun to drive.
