In the Least Surprising News of the Day
File this under “what took so long?”
Hall of Fame Racing officials announced NNS driver Brad Coleman will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut by piloting the #96 DLP HDTV Toyota Camry in the Aug. 17 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Coleman will replace J.J. Yeley who has been released by the team.
OK, what’s the over/under.
When Denny Hamlin replaced Yeley at Joe Gibbs Racing there was an immediate improvement in the team’s performance. I won’t stand on too thin of a limb and claim HoF will become a championship contender anytime soon.
But I will say within 5 starts by Coleman there will be a marked improvement in the teams average finish.
What say you?
In other news you can lose: You should know, if you don’t already, I’m cheap. The “skinest” of skinflints.
With that in mind which one of you ladies will accompany me to Madera Speedway? I won’t go into the details, but the short of it is, the deal is basically a two for one deal with “restrictions.”
Soooo…. which one of you ladies will see me (while I’m ogling you) at the races?
UPDATE: Well now, this is a surprise, at least it is to me. I only have one thing to say, Truex Jr., you’ll be sorry.

Here is what Brad has said makes him a hopeful success in racing; “When I was a little boy I used to play with Hot Wheels on the floor all day,” he says. “If a race was on TV, I would get on the floor with my little cars and line them up like I was in the race.” Yea, ok hotshot. Good luck
JJY is the 2000s version of the 1980s Bobby Hillin Jr.
Dr. Andy, and that is different than how many other racers that have made it into and won in the Big Time?
There’s not enough toes and fingers in a crowd of dozens to count.
You are right…it’s about time they put Coleman in there. Now that the young star will be back in Gibbs equipment it will only be a matter of time before that team is on its way up.
And Dr. Andy…my guess is you played with plastic stethoscopes when you were little. It’s great to know the kid dreamed and followed through. It gives us all a little hope!
You moonbat.
Hamlin replaced Leffler, who was a POS to begin with, and why Gibbs ever hired him I’ll never understand. Well, overall, even though by October that year they were stringing drivers together
Yeley got the kick in the ass for Kyle Busch, which to Coach’s credit just worked out peachy this season, eh?
But yeah, I’m not surprised Yeley got shown the door. I am surprised it took this long. Tony Raines may have not been a superstar or a young gun style kid, but he could at least keep it in the Top 35.
Difference between Gibbs’ #18 in 2007 and 2008? The driver. Same for the #96.
J Gordon, T Stewart, R Newman all open wheelers (sprints and midgets) who have proved to be pretty damn good. Yeley and Lefler not so good. The younger Busch brother has proved it wasn’t the equipment. Who am missing here?
Okay, Yeley’s admittedly nowhere near superstar status, but there’s also far worse drivers out there. On the flip side of that, though, there are very few teams that worse that HOF Racing. So, while Yeley may not be the solution, I think it’s fair to say he’s not the problem there, either.
I believe we just found a new candidate for the RCR #33, btw … pending, of course, whether or not Penske signs Mears.
I don’t think so, Tim.
When Raines gifted the ride to Yeley, it was in the Top 35 solidly. Change the nameplate, no big difference there (look where they get their cars from), and what do you have? Same machine, well out of the Top 35 and praying to catch up.
JJ isn’t a bad guy, he just couldn’t cut it in Cup. Nothing to be ashamed of, really. There’s only a fraction of a fraction of a percent that have that privilege, and to do it for the time he did is more than most can only dream of.
And Leffler? Story over. Get a haircut, and a real job.
Right now, everybody is looking at that 18, and wondering how he could barely keep it in the Top 35, while Rowdy is stinkin up the show with the same thing.
Tim “I believe we just found a new candidate for the RCR #33, btw … pending, of course, whether or not Penske signs Mears.”
Ahemm… or RCR signs Dario and Ashley!
“I speak to Richard all the time,” said Franchitti, who met the car owner a few years ago through mutual friends at Eurocopter. “We haven’t spoken specifically about the fourth car yet, but that’s a subject I’m definitely going to talk to him about.”
