Is Jack Roush a Snake?

posted in NASCAR |

I’ll get the the titles reference in a second, but first the background.

It was just two weeks ago Larry Carter was named to crew chief David Reutimann’s #00 Toyota Camry during Toyota’s and Michael Waltrip’s debut season in NEXTEL Cup.

That was then. This is now, Larry Carter has left Michael Waltrip Racing to join Roush Racing, MWR general manager Ty Norris said Wednesday. Carter will assume duties as crew chief for Jamie McMurray and the #26 Ford Fusion.

The irony of course is Jack has been one of the most outspoken about Toyota using its fat wallet to raid current (read non-Toyota) teams of talent.

When Norris was reminded of Jack’s fear of Toyota’s deep pockets Norris said, “I was told a long time ago if you walk by a snake coiled up and hiding in the bushes, don’t prod it. So I won’t say anything.”

Funny stuff. And a pretty good shot while remaining “diplomatic.” I bet Norris was really thinking about taking a page out of another NASCAR Toyota team’s book on how to treat those that leave the organization.

Why not let us know what you think by adding your own comment! Your opinion is as valid as anyone elses. (Except mine, it takes precedence over all!)

Yes Jack sure is a snake. He’s afraid Toyota will take the dominance he once enjoyed in Cup racing and he’s an admitted racist by his own mouth.

As for Larry Carter leaving MWR, had nothing to do with Roush. It had to do with some kind of feud between Carter and Matt Borland, who was named Dale Jarrett’s crew chief at MWR. Alot of us are thinking that Carter got mad because he got “stuck” with the rookie while Borland got the past champ DJ. Thing is, DJ wanted someone “like Borland” but Michael & Ty went out and got Borland. Obviously they didn’t know how much bad blood there was between those two.

Renee, wow. You’ll have to provide a link and quotes to anything Jack has said the mark him as a racist in your mind.

Growing up within 2 miles of Jacks operation in Livonia Mi I can personally atest to the fact many minorities are and have been employed there. If he is it hasn’t displayed itself in his employment practices.

As for Borland/Carter, you probably know more than I about any bad blood and the back story. However Roush most definitely had something to do with the story.

No one else signed Carter when the time was right. Jack did and time has proved to some extent the Toyota’s entry intoi Cup has had an effect of saleries paid to drivers and crewmen.

Marc, on NASCAR RACEDAY, Jack Roush told Wendy Venturini about how he paid a worker in Yen when he saw the guy’s Nissan pickup in their lot. Told him if he wanted to drive a foreign car he’ll be paid that way too. So there’s no link I can provide, just the story Jack himself relayed on tv.

Sure Jack has many minorities working for him. They have laws that require it. If not, I’d doubt he would have any.

Renee, your incorrect on both counts.

While there wouldn’t be a link to the ref you provide there is one to a SpeedTV Forum that I’m willing to bet starts off with you commenting on the subject of a Yen payment.

Based on that I would agree he apparently did say what you claim.

However, you made the charge he was a racist. Assuming what he said and did is fact that would make him xenophobic, not a racist.

Not the best of things to be, and unfortunately all to common by too many in the US, but considering his long standing relationship with Ford it’s obvious why he would take the stand he did.

So apparently you think it’s OK for a man who is supposed to be respected and running a business to act like a moron just because someone drove a different make vehicle to work?
Why couldn’t he just tell him “I don’t appreciate that Nissan being here” or something with more tact? Oh yeah, that’s right, Roush isn’t about tact, he’s about being scared of Toyota taking his domination. Poor Jack…whaaaaaaaaa. He needs his diaper changed. Call it what you want, but when you make comments and do stupid things like that, it’s racist no matter how you slice it.

oh, and yes that thread on Speed forums was me as well. As you can tell though, Jack DID do that, and in ALOT of people’s eyes, that was racist no matter how you want to spin it.

Geesh calm down and read what I wrote. See anything that condones Roush’s alleged actions?

Fact is I noted it was unfortunate many people in the U.S. had the same attitude. You’ve let your animosity for Jack send you down a misguided path.

Not to mention not knowing what the definition of racist is.

Marc, I was born in Florida and have lived in South Carolina and Alabama. I KNOW what racist is

    Apparently not.

But if it makes you feel better to [mis]label someone as a “racist” based on a single episode that was clearly directed at a company and not an individual be my guest.
