It Must be a Done Deal Then

posted in NASCAR |

Although not official, driver David Gilliland, for all intents and purposes seems to be headed elsewhere. First came his shocking win at Kentucky in an unsponsored car and the media storm that followed.

In conjunction with that storm were reports of Gilliland leaving to drive for every team able to afford a hauler. Clues began to surface; The biggest was Gilliland appearing on Speed TV eating M&M’s (sponsor of the #38) while denying any deal was in the works.

The second clue offered to CSI NASCAR in search of his future was RYR signing Gilliland to a single race deal.

The final piece of the puzzle has fallen into place. Gillilands team, Clay Andrews Racing, has shut its garage doors.

“We put our heart, soul and resources into David Gilliland,” Andrews said in a statement July 31. “Personally and financially we do not feel it is best to move forward at this time. We hope to be back in about three years. I have my eye on a young, but very talented driver that I would love to bring back into the Busch Series.”

Done deal.

RYR has signed Gilliland to a contract.

  • "Gentlemen, I won't be dictated to by the union." Six-foot-five, 240-pound Big Bill France loosened his tie, removed his glasses, and proceeded to put the "fear of God" into his workers. Before he had "this union stuffed down [his] throat," he swore, he would shut down his entire operation, plow it up, and plant corn.
