It’s Un-American I Tell Ya!

Tony George, you know Tony, the fella that tried to fix open wheel racing, and instead built a jackass from blueprints that detailed the construction of a thoroughbred race horse.

Well TG has another plan. And it looks mighty Trotsky-like to me.

His latest plan is to do away with all race purses, except his cash cow the Indy 500, and start a revenue sharing scheme.

Under his plan and starting next year if approved, each team would be guaranteed $1.3 million for every car they commit to the entire 17 race schedule. In other words, if you

Thanks for the mention. TBF will link you back.

Well, it is a joke and so I kind of went with it from there.

In lieu of revenue sharing, TG should have all the teams race for a piece of the gate. The winner should get 10%, my guess being about $2.75, after the promoter deducts expenses.

The very notion that any team fields 4 cars in a single series just …annoys me from the sporting angle at least. I mean, you’re definitely stacking the deck at that point aren’t you? I get the basic logic…how else to guarantee a full field, right?… but it’s one of the reasons I don’t buy the ticket.

Maybe this could be viewed as an incentive or bonus to struggling teams but I doubt that will be the case. As you point out, what about the drivers that get a purse %? Actually, is the IRL more transparent about their purses and what positions pay what than other series?

God, I do love Russian accents, though. Well laced with vodka.

I hope that NASCAR would not be able to affect other racing series… :)
