Jeremy Mayfield, Two Others Booted for Drug Abuse

Jeremy Mayfield, Tony Martin and Ben Williams have been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy.

All three were found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 7-5 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2009 NASCAR rule book.

So much for Mayfield being an owner/driver. He’s out indefinitely as the driver and the #41 car will have to be sold, or at least listed under a different name, if and when it returns to the Sprint Cup Series.

As for Ben Williams it’s a case of going from the penthouse to the out house. He’s is, or was a crew member of the #16 team that won the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 Friday night.

Tony Martin was a member of the #34 team driven by Tony Raines in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Good riddance, one and all.

From the Irony Department: One of Mayfield’s crew members, Paul Chodora, became the first person suspended for failing a drug test under the new policy instituted this season. Chodora was summarily escorted out of Daytona International Speedway in February and suspended indefinitely.

  1. Which juice were they on?

  2. Don’t get me wrong I support the no-drugs policy, but, could these idiots be guilty of smoking the wacky tabacky?

  3. We’ll never know unless they release the info themselves. The substance found gets shielded by the privacy policy.

  4. Update - Mayfield has spoken - he claims he was taking an over-the-counter drug and his doctor gave him a scrip also. Both were for an allergy he has.

Supposedly the two in combination is what caused the positive result.

The expert claims Mayfield is full of more than tainted piss, he full of plain old bullshit.

Based on my 12 years as a drug councilor (DON’T ask, I’ve seen too many dicks to count!) for the Navy I tend to agree. There are certain drugs when taken together will pop positive but none that I’m aware of taken for allergies.

  5. That is the oldest excuse, along with the dog ate my homework.

  6. The oldest excuse is “Oh that’s my sister.” (when caught out with another woman.)

  7. I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT JEREMY MAYFIELD IS A CLEAN ALL AMERICAN GUY. HE SEEMS LIKE A VERY NICE AND EAST GOING GUY. IT IS VERY HARD FOR ME TO BELIEVE THAT HE WAS TAKING ILLEGAL DRUGS. I BELIEVE THAT IT WAS A BANNED SUBSTANCE ACCORDING TO NASCAR POLICY. IF IT WAS A PRESCRIBED AND LEGAL DRUG, THE SUSPENSION SHOULD BE A SHORT ONE.
IF IT WAS AN ILLEGAL DRUG, HE SHOULD BE BANNED FROM NASCAR FOREVER.

    THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION

  8. First of all Sandy, not sure if you’re a regular blog reader, but it’s considered impolite to post in all caps. It’s considered “screaming” at someone.

That said, if as Mayfield has claimed he was taking Claritin-D too bad, so sad and here’s why:

Claritin-D causes side effects and I quote directly from the bottle: “Claritin-D may impair your thinking or reactions” and to be “careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.”

Something tells me driving 190 mph in close proximity to 42 others qualifies.

In addition he had a drug in his system that was proscribed by his doctor that may have made the symptoms worse.

  9. I’m not sure what to think of all of this, But to me it seems as if they are going to keep him out for a very long time just to prove a point. There are many OTC med’s, Prescritions and even some foods that can cause a false positive.

I would think that like other sports if they go through rehab or can prove their response to this that they should be given a chance to return.

  10. Vonnie the point to be proven is you shouldn’t be dirty.

To get back he needs to complete a rehab program.

  11. go jeremy! give them hell. fight for it and come back soon. i will tell u that i am loyal to a fault so if u fuck me with bad urine tests, i will no longer be loyal to u and stick up for u.

    good luck!
    xoxo
