Jimmie Johnson Mimics Paul Tracy

Champ Car World Series star Paul Tracy had the “misfortune” of running amok during a drunken rampage with a golf cart a few weeks ago. The resulting accident left the Canadian with a broken shoulder and he missed the last CCWS event of 2006.

Just crowned NEXTEL Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson has had a similar incident during a charity golf outing in Lecanto, Fla.

Johnson sustained a fracture to his left wrist Friday, but the injury is not expected to affect his status for NASCAR preseason testing or the Feb. 18 Daytona 500. Doctors say he should be cleared to drive in about 4 weeks.

Although there are no reports of alcohol being involved, one unconfirmed report states there was some horse-play involved in an accident that also involved a golf cart.

Johnson has withdrawn from the Dec. 16 Race of Champions (RoC) Nations Cup at the Stade de France in Paris, but will attend the event to consult with Team USA. No announcement has been made as to who will replace Johnson behind the wheel in Paris although I would suspect teammate and 2005 RoC participant, Jeff Gordon may be the first choice.

Wonder how long it will be before drivers contracts will forbid any contact with golf carts either as its driver or passenger in one?

  1. Soon owners will add the clause disallowing horse play! Vroom…

  2. Disallow horseplay and the drivers would soon check into a rubber room somewhere.
