Jimmy Spencer the “Flower Child”
Jimmy Spencer - the consummate northeast modifed driver, turned NASCAR driver and sometime on track pugilist, turned to the Speed Channel and a job as analyst to continue his connection to the sport he loves.
Away from the track, it’s a far different story. Where he once punched out the competition, with bumper or fist dependent on the mood and circumstances of the day, he spends his off time punching out the weeds that invade the two acres surrounding his home.
“I am my own gardener,” Jimmy says. He’s also one of a kind.
IN OTHER NEWS YOU CAN LOSE: The Repo Man visited the Lowes garage of Haas Racing and confiscated both the Johnny Sauter #70 and the Scott Riggs #66 after someone dropped a dime on the team. The tip-off by yet unknown persons led NASCAR inspectors to have a look at both cars and they were found to have wing support pieces out of spec. Both cars were put on roll-backs, trucked off the speedway premises, and are headed to the NASCAR R&D center. Sauter and Riggs will start at the back of the field Sunday in back-up cars.
Jimmy Johnson, the poster child of San Diego living. A native of nearby El Cajon Johnson was asked what his favorite food is, his answer in typical San Diegoian fashion: “Fish tacos always hit the spot.”
Jimmy also has room for Frosted Mini-Wheats, Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia and Karamel Sutra ice cream. Hopefully not at the same sitting.
NCTS Rookie and reigning Whelen Modified Champ Donny Lia muscled his way past David Starr on the last lap to win the Ohio 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Park.
Lia, who started 28th in the 36-truck field, bumped past Starr in the backstretch and then held off Starr and Todd Bodine to become the first truck series rookie to win since Carl Edwards in 2003.
