Johnson Gets Three-peat, Edwards May be the Crown Prince

Sunday may have been Jimmie Johnson’s coronation as Sprint Cup Champion for the third time but it was Carl Edwards who may have proved he is “Sprint Cup Prince” waiting for the King to abdicate the throne.

Edwards led a race-high 157 laps and ran out of gas as he crossed the finish line, but fumes were all he needed to stake his claim to a series-high ninth win Sunday. While the media went Ga-Ga over Kyle Busch’s 21 NASCAR win season Edwards quietly racked up 16 wins counting his seventh NNS win gained Saturday at Miami Homestead.

For the new, or I should say, for the returning champion Johnson he did what was needed Sunday - a Sunday Drive if you will - a 15th place finish and a place in history beside Cale Yarborough as one of the only two drivers in the sport’s history to go back-to-back-to-back.

And yes Nay-sayers, and you know who you are, without the Chase Carl Edwards would be wearing the Crown by a slim 16 points, but there is, and he isn’t.

But he is the Crown Prince-in-Waiting.

Let me know if the feature is worth it’s weight in bandwidth and for possible inclusion to Full Throttle as a plugin to the software.
