Kenseth Goes Home And Takes ASA Pole
Following in the footsteps of other NASCAR stars Matt Kenseth has used a down week in the NEXTEL Cup schedule to turn a few laps on one of Americas short tracks. Madison International Speedway plays host to the first ever race in the ASA Late Model Series. Returning to the area he grew up in Kenseth toured the 1/2 mile 18 degree banked track with ease and captured pole position for tonights Blaine?s Farm & Fleet/DeWalt/Carhartt 100.
?It?s cool,? Kenseth stated about being the first pole winner in ASA Late Model Series history. ?It?s always especially fun to come back to Madison after growing up here and racing a lot here. There is a great field of cars here and a lot of competition so it?s pretty cool to come here and be on the pole.?
Driving the No. 74 DeWalt Ford Taurus, Kenseth posted a fast time of 18.116-seconds. Ron Breese will start on the outside pole thanks to his time of 18.237-seconds. Rounding out the top 5 starters are Joey Logano (18.306), Jason Setsa (18.341) and Travis Kvapil (18.371).
